The Plan
The objective of the trip is to spend four weeks hiking along the Tahoe Rim
Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail, creating a photo gallery of Lake Tahoe
and the surrounding areas. The Trip will be starting at the Tahoe Rim Trail
head in Tahoe City and will work south along the Nevada side. The Pacific
Crest Trail joins with the Tahoe Rim Trail at Meiss Meadows and continues
until its split near Twin Peaks. Once on the Pacific Crest Trail the trip
will continue through the Sierras until Donner Lake. The Trip is
approximately 210 miles. I will be spending a fair amount of time off
trail, because not all of Tahoe's beauty lies within the confides of a
trail. This trip is a long time in the making. The first plans for this
trip were made in 1998.
Who am I, and why am I doing this trip?
My name is John Schonder and ever since I was a small child Lake Tahoe
has fascinated me. Lake Tahoe has always been a place of great mystery,
power, and beauty to all that visit. Lake Tahoe has helped my evolution
into adulthood, and has helped inspired me to greatness. This
trip has many important reasons behind it, ever since I was in high school I
have wanted to do a trip were I could take pictures of Lake Tahoe and create
a photo book. I have wanted to share Lake Tahoe as I know it with the rest
of the world. I also want to raise awareness about the League to Save Tahoe
organization and also the Tahoe Rim Trail association. Lake Tahoe is a
place of pristine beauty and it needs our help to keep it that way. Finally
this trip is for me. I have wanted to spend time alone at Lake Tahoe as a
spiritual life guest. While on the trip I will use the time to examine my
life and through meditation, visualization, and joining with Mother Earth I
will come to a point of healing and learning.
Protect Tahoe.
As part of my trip I want to raise awareness about the struggle to keep
Lake Tahoe one of the worlds most beautiful national parks. The League
to Save Lake Tahoe "Keep Tahoe Blue" is the oldest organization dedicated
solely to the environment of the Lake Tahoe Basin, it was formed in 1957 and
is a private funding, non-profit, public benefit membership organization.
The league to Save Lake Tahoe is, "Dedicated to the restoration and
preservation of the Lake Tahoe Basin." Please look at their web site at
www.keeptahoeblue.org for more
information or to volunteer. You can contact
the League via email at
info@keeptahoeblue.org or you can call:
Northshore office 530 584 1660
Southshore office 530 584 5388
Lake Tahoe is in constant need of support. Please help protect and
preserve this beautiful lake so we can share it with our children, ignoring
the problem will not create a solution. Call, email, or stop in and see
what you can do to "Keep Tahoe Blue"
The Tahoe Rim Trail association is the second group I want to raise
awareness about. The Tahoe Rim Trail association was founded in 1981 with
the plan to build, promote and maintain a rim trail system providing access
to the beauty of the lake Tahoe region. Without the efforts of this
wonderful group this trip that I am planning would be much more difficult.
For the last 18 years the Tahoe Rim Trails main focus was completing its 150
mile rim trail loop. If you would like more information or would like to
volunteer your time to the Tahoe Rim Trail Association go to their website
at www.tahoerimtrail.org.
The Gallery
The photo gallery that will be created from the trip will be available
for sale online exclusively at www.libertycore.org. All prints will be
available in two sizes, 8x11 and 11x14. I will be creating limited
editions of the prints, quantity of ten per print. These limited edition
prints will come framed and signed and will come with information about the
particular site. All prices will be available when the gallery is open. The
planned date for the gallery opening is August 1, 2002. This date is
schedule to change, keep posted to www.libertycore.org for updates on the
gallery.
The Trails
During the duration of the trip I will be utilizing two amazing trails
here on the West Coast. The first is the Tahoe Rim Trail, which will take
me around all of Tahoe. I will be taking the Tahoe Rim trail until it meets
with the Pacific Crest Trail. The Pacific Crest Trail is a beautiful trail
running from Mexico to Canada running through California, Oregon, and
Washington. The Pacific Crest Trail and Tahoe Rim Trail join together at
Meiss Meadows and splits five miles north of the Barker pass trail head. I
will be taking the Pacific Crest Trail from Lake Tahoe to Donner Lake. To
learn more about the Pacific Crest Trail you can look at their web site at
www.pcta.org or you can call 916-349-2109. Please help preserve all of our
nations national parks, they can't protect themselves.
