Once you think "me" you have already had a profoundly selfish thought. And it becomes very difficult to think of another person without thinking of what you will lose or gain from them.

As a result of selfishness the life around you becomes worth less and less. The life of your wife, your son, your daughter, your husband, your brother, your parents, strangers, lovers, bums, bosses, co-workers, every person you learn to turn your back on if they don't please, cater, or benefit you diminishes...Do you stand there smiling, waiting to complain to your wife about what you saw or what you heard? Can you feel that grimace and that tone change as you judge and separate and block away? Have you made her part of your dissent? Does she join you in your tone?...As you seek your image you will come to use people around you so that you feel your life has value. If your value is important it will naturally seek to devalue those around you, so your opinions and views are more right, thus increasing your value and thoughts of your prideful personage. For value to exist in one thing, if their is no equality, value must be taken from something else, which as far as the psyche is concerned will be those you love and admire. So long as you think you have great value you'll ruin the minds and lives around you, all the while thinking your righteousness helps them. Life is short and power, image and place are fleeting. These are the seeds for resentment, cruelty, and judgment, which yield the roots of oppression. The path to place value in yourself, towards power and control, will leave you with no value at all, and your last thought just before you die will be regret and the wonderment of how you could have possibly lost. And those that show up to watch you die, though they weep, do they weep for themselves or for you? Did you know real love? Was the love around you selfless, or selfish? What value did they hope to accrue from you?

Be less selfish, in everything you do. Or...you will lose every time you gain. A life can never hold more value than it does the second it is born. Never. Equality is constant. The value of money, possessions, image, are secondary to true value; they are made up. Only the damned, only those that will suffer massively in life, can think otherwise, even if it is not until that final thought, when it is realized. You must be vigilant and willing to see yourself not as a perfect winning supremacist. Keep humility in your heart.

I do not seek power, rank, control or money. I notice life in everything around me.  And nothing human disgusts me.
